Put your Speckle Park beef to the test
The 2027 Speckle Park Signature Beef Challenge (SPSBC) will put the breed’s genetics, production performance and eating quality to the test in the most tangible way possible: on the plate.
More than a competition, the Challenge is an opportunity to build a stronger body of evidence around what Speckle Park can deliver. By benchmarking Purebred and Speckle Park-Infused cattle across grass-fed and grain-fed production systems, the Challenge will help identify strengths, inform breeding decisions and support stronger commercial conversations across the beef supply chain.
For breeders and producers, it is a chance to put your cattle forward, benchmark the end product and contribute to a clearer picture of how Speckle Park genetics perform from paddock to plate.

Four classes. Different production pathways. One opportunity to prove performance.
The Challenge will be contested across four classes, designed to capture the breadth of Speckle Park’s commercial application.
CLASS ONE — Purebred Speckle Park Grass-Fed
Open to Purebred Speckle Park cattle, showcasing premium eating quality including marbling, tenderness, juiciness and full beef flavour without grain supplementation.
CLASS TWO — Purebred Speckle Park Grain-Fed
Open to Purebred Speckle Park cattle finished for a maximum of 120 days on grain, with a focus on marbling, tenderness and soft-textured beef flavour.
CLASS THREE — Speckle Park-Infused Grass-Fed
Open to eligible cattle carrying a minimum of 50% Speckle Park genetics, highlighting the contribution of Speckle Park genetics to hybrid vigour and premium eating quality in a grass-fed system.
CLASS FOUR — Speckle Park-Infused Grain-Fed
Open to eligible Speckle Park-Infused cattle finished for a maximum of 120 days on grain, testing eating quality and performance through a grain-fed pathway.
The Challenge is open to current financial members of Speckle Park International.
All cattle entered must be under 24 months of age at slaughter and meet the DNA and parent verification requirements relevant to their class.
For Purebred classes, entries must be DNA parent-verified through Speckle Park International.
For Speckle Park-Infused classes, cattle must carry a minimum of 50% Speckle Park genetics, with the Speckle Park sire or dam DNA parent verified through SPI.
All entries must complete the SPI DNA Bundle prior to judging.
Exhibitors may enter one animal per class, with a maximum of four entries across the competition.
What the Challenge can deliver
Every entry contributes to something bigger than the final result.
The Challenge will create a structured platform to benchmark Speckle Park beef using consistent, comparable information across different genetics and production systems. Over time, this can help build a stronger understanding of the traits that matter from the paddock through to the consumer.
For the Speckle Park industry, that means an opportunity to:
benchmark eating quality and commercial performance
generate evidence that can support future breeding and selection decisions
better understand performance across Purebred and crossbreeding systems
strengthen conversations with processors, foodservice, retailers and other supply chain partners
build greater confidence around the consistency and market potential of Speckle Park beef.
Who can enter?
STAGE ONE – Enter the Challenge
Complete the entry form to register your entry, nominate your class or classes and pay the entry fee.
The entry fee is $500 + GST per entry. Following the close of entries, submissions will be assessed by SPI.

Entry is completed in two stages.
STAGE TWO – Final nomination
Successful entrants will be contacted to finalise their nomination and confirm the information and arrangements required for processing and delivery.
Entries close 2 December 2026.

What will be judged?
Each accepted entry will provide one whole boneless striploin, processed through an AUS-MEAT accredited facility and meeting the competition’s product and ageing requirements.
Judging will be conducted blind, with entries coded so judges cannot identify the exhibitor, ownership or brand.
The judging process will bring the focus back to the beef itself, assessing the eating qualities at the heart of the Challenge and providing a platform to recognise outstanding Speckle Park product.
Judges may include experienced representatives from across the beef and food industries, including chefs, food professionals and other qualified industry representatives.
Gold, Silver and Bronze medals may be awarded within each of the four classes, with trophies presented to Gold Medal recipients.

Judging will take place in Melbourne on 2–3 March 2027.
