Speckle Park shine as EKKA 2025 Feature Breed
The 2025 Brisbane EKKA put Speckle Park cattle front and centre as this year’s Feature Breed — and the cattle and their breeders rose to the occasion, delivering standout results across the stud, carcase and youth arenas.
In the stud cattle judging, SND Signature Rather Perfect claimed the coveted title of Supreme Speckle Park Exhibit, impressing judges with her style, structure and breed character. The bull section was equally strong, with Anden U08 taking out Grand Champion Speckle Park Bull before going on to secure a place in the top five interbreed championship — a clear marker of the breed’s growing competitiveness against Australia’s elite.
In the steer ring, the Grand Champion Steer from the SPI Feature classes was “Oreo”, presented by Holy Trinity and Nathan Purvis, whose even muscling, finish and presentation impressed the judges. He weighed in at 413kg and went on to sell for $13.80kg in the 2025 EKKA Led Steer Auction after showing.
Speckle Park cattle also made their presence felt in the commercial carcase competitions. A Pen of Three Steers entered in the Ken McDonald Memorial Shield secured an impressive third place, reinforcing the breed’s reputation for consistent performance from paddock to plate.
In the RNA Paddock to Plate competition, Minnamurra Speckle Park recorded strong results across both export and trade classes.
Class 37 – 100 Day HGP Export: 2nd in Class 37C MSA Eating Quality
Class 38 – 70 Day HGP Trade: 7th overall, 2nd in Class 38C MSA Eating Quality, 3rd in Class 38C Highest Individual Index Score
These results underline the breed’s ability to deliver premium beef across a range of market specifications.

Beyond the showring, the Speckle Park community came together for a social dinner at Brisbane’s iconic Breakfast Creek Hotel, where two milestone initiatives were unveiled. The Speckle Park International Youth Exchange Program was officially launched, with Lachlan Lifton named as the inaugural recipient. He will travel to Canada later this year to attend Canadian Western Agribition. The night also featured the announcement of the Heifer 100 winner — Battalion Rapunzel U99, selected by Ashley Danks — with tickets to the draw selling out in under two hours.
As EKKA’s 2025 Feature Breed, Speckle Park not only captured attention but also collected accolades, reinforcing their versatility and cementing their place as one of Australia’s most exciting and competitive beef breeds.
